On 14th August 1947, as India was on the verge of getting its independence from British Raj, British India was divided into two countries India and Pakistan. The partition turned so violent and ugly that even till date, the two countries are full of suspicion and hostility for each other. Another reason of discord between the two countries is the exclusion of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir from the Partition. The state was free to choose which country it wanted to join or whether it wanted to function as an independent state. As a result, there was a war between the two countries right after partition over Jammu and Kashmir, and it became a part of disputed territory. Other wars and conflicts have continued after that. However, there have been many attempts to create good will amongst the two countries, but none has worked very well.
