Sachin Tendulkar becomes a Rajya Sabha Member

Sachin Tendulkar, the greatest batsman ever and the brilliant  actress of yesteryear Rekha, will now become members of Parliament with the government nominating  them to the Rajya Sabha.

The Parliament of India is the law making body  of our country. It is responsible for making laws for the betterment of our nation. It is divided into two groups:

  • Rajya  Sabha where from 250 members, mostly are elected by top state authorities. Thus, it’s also called Council of states.
  •  Lok Sabha where 545 members are elected the people of the country through voting. Thus, it’s also called House of the People.

12 Rajya Sabha members are chosen by the President from persons who have earned distinction in the fields of literature, art, science and social service. These selections is governments way of showing respect and graditude to these important citizens for what they have done for the country. Also their valuable knowledge in their respective fields, helps goverment to make effective laws. Rest Of the members are selected, few from each state, and by the topmost state authorities.
The nomination of the these eminent personalities has been approved by President Pratibha Patil and accepted by these personalities.

By including talented members like these in it’s team, our government will surely be able to make better laws for its citizens.
