Australian Open – End of Week 1

 

The Australian Open, a two week long major tennis tournament currently being held in Melbourne, Australia has come to end of week one. The first week saw a lot of action. Top three seeds in men, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray reached the quarter finals comfortably, but Juan Martin Del Porto(seeded 6) and Richard Gasquet(seeded 9) couldn’t make it past initial rounds.

In women singles, top three seeds, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams made it to the quarter finals while few other popular players like Samantha Stosur, Marion Bartoli, Angelique Kerber have exited the tournament.

Australian open started on 14th January and will end on 27th January.
