Mars Solar Conjunction

Curiosity to Rest in April

Don’t worry! There is nothing wrong with our beloved Mars rover. Curiosity will rest because it will not be receiving any command or signals from NASA during this time due to occurrence of a solar conjunction.

Solar conjunction occurs when the sun passes between the Earth and another planet. Mars solar conjunction happens once about once every 26 months. When this happens, communication with any spacecraft gets effected due to the sun’s interference on radio transmissions from the spacecraft.

NASA officials don’t want curiosity to act upon any impartial or wrong command or signal as it can have unwanted consequences. Therefore, they feel it is better to suspend any communication with the rover during the conjunction.
