What are Pests and Pesticides?

Don’t trouble! Stop being a Pest!!

Have you ever heard someone saying, ” Dont trouble me, Stop being a
pest” !! What does that mean? What is a pest? A pest is an organism like an insect, or fungus, bacteria, virus or a rodent. Pests cause destruction or spread diseases. Think about termites causing damage to our homes, cockroaches running in our house, flies that sit on our food. They are all pests!!

It is not at all good for us to have them float in out house. So how do we get rid of them?

We use pesticides.

A pesticide is a chemical used to prevent, kill, or repel pests. Most pesticides contain chemicals that can be very harmful to people, animals, or the environment.

What are Pesticides?

Pesticides are especially used in farming to prevent or kill pests from infesting the crops. But pesticides when sprayed also seep into the soil and pollute it. Wind carries the pesticides to water bodies (like lakes) and to the air around us, causing water and air pollution. Besides that, some bit of pesticides also goes into the crops that we eat, like rice!

Rather than using harmful pesticides, pests can be eliminated by natural means like removing pest breeding sites or by using a pest eating organism, which can help get rid of the pest naturally.

Note that if someone is calling you a pest you should know that you are being very annoying to him/her and it would be best for you to just back off.
