Ghana’s New Year begins with a resolution to reduce energy consumption and to protect the environment.

In order to implement this resolution Ghana has put a ban on the import of second-hand refrigerators. The old fridges have chemicals called Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) which are harmful for the Earth’s ozone layer.

However, a lot of people are poor and cannot afford new fridges. So Ghana has offered a nice plan to discount new fridges if the people return their used refrigerators.

The government not only wants to protect the environment but also encourage manufacturing of new and cheap fridges in Ghana.

All of us need to think about saving the environment.
