Kilogram Heavier Than Before?

Such an exciting news! If kilogram is getting heavier, then we all must be getting lighter, right? Or heavier? Lighter?

Confused?

Well this is how it works, The standard unit for the kilogram weight – known as the International Prototype Kilogram (IPK) was first introduced in 1875. The original IPK is a matchbox sized piece of platinum stored in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures in Paris. Forty copies were made in 1884 and sent all over the world so that the measure are the same, as The Telegraph reported.

Now this platinum sample is sitting happily for 137 year not bothered by tiny particles sticking to it. However, even after resting for 137 year this  matchbox sized piece only increased by a few micrograms. Wow! Lucky platinum doesn’t gain any weight:)

So you will be getting lighter on the weighing scale but only by a few micrograms. Ha!
