Olympics Badminton history

Olympic Sport – Badminton

Here is an interesting fact about badminton I bet you did not know. This sport originated in India !! Long ago remember when British ruled India? For fun they played a game called ‘Battledore’ -( meaning bat) which was used to hit a shuttlecock. They added net to this game while playing it one day in the city named ‘Poona'(Now known as Pune). The new game was called ‘Poona’ for a long time. Now a days it is known as Badminton.

In the game, players hit a shuttlecock over the net into their opponents’ half. The aim is to score points by hitting the shuttlecock and not let it fall. Badminton is a fast sport. Players need to be very fit, have quick reactions and excellent judgment of the shuttlecock. Doubles players must be able to work together perfectly as a team.
