Have you ever heard about Bigfoot? Or a yeti? Or an abominable snowman? These are all names for extremely mysterious large hairy ape-like creature, covered in dark brown or dark reddish hair and about 6–10 feet tall and weighing more than 230 kg (500 pounds). Depending on where they have been spotted around the world, locals have given them different names. Creatures spotted in the snow capped mountains of Himalayas have been referred to as Yeti by the locals. Meh-Teh or abominable snowman is the other names that they are known by. Sasquatch was the name originally given to an ape-like creature that people believed inhabited the forests of the Pacific Northwest region of North America. He got the name Bigfoot much later when in 1958, Bulldozer operator Jerry Crew discovered enormous footprints at an isolated work site in California. This is how Sasquatch became popularly known as Bigfoot.

Do such creatures really exist now? Had they ever existed?

Well no one knows for sure. There are many indigenous people who believe that these odd creatures have existed from hundreds of years. And that these shy creatures like to live a secluded life in jungles and mountains away from humans. In fact, many people in Himalayan regions of Nepal and Tibet have claimed to have seen Yetis. People in North America say that they have spotted Bigfoot.

In 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin reported that they had captured a Sasquatch on film at Bluff Creek, California. Many people since then have reported sightings of their own.

However, most scientists believe that there is no proof that creatures like Bigfoot or Yeti exist or ever existed. At some point, scientists thought that Bigfoot could be related to an early human called Neanderthal, but then their fossils have never been discovered in America. They, therefore, dismiss the claims of sightings as either misidentifications or hoaxes.

Whether such a creature is out there, we will never know for sure! But you better watch out while camping ;). Here is a sure trick to scare away a Bigfoot if it ever comes to spoil your party ;)
