Venice is also known as “City of Water”, “City of Canals” and “The Floating City” because the Italian city that is built on 117 small islands that are separated by 150 canals. A canal is a kind of “road of water” made by humans to get things from one place to another.
Grand Canal, is one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. Venice, for the first time imposed a brief ban on Sunday on motorboats, launches and barges to operate on Grand Canal. This ban came after growing concerns about speedboats and barges badly polluting the canal waters.
The Venetian authorities are seriously thinking about gradually replacing these boats with the more environment friendly ones.
