Volcano eruption in Ecuador

 

Tungurahua Volcano in Ecuador has been showing increased volcanic activity and the emission of steam, gas and ash.

The volcano is located near Banos, 140km south of the country’s capital of Quito.  There was a sudden activity around 19th August and finally an outburst on 21st August. The Tungurahua, aptly named as “Throat of Fire” in Ecuador’s native language. The authorities have advised the people in neighboring areas to move to safer places.

This volcano is an active volcano. Active volcanoes are likely to erupt at any time where as inactive volcanoes are ‘dormant‘ or haven’t erupted much in the past and are unlikely to erupt in the near future.
