Water Water All Around Me!

Water Water All Around Me!

Our Earth is made up of land and water. Some very large parts of land are called continents. Some very large parts of water are called ocean and seas.

In the oceans and seas are some smaller land parts that are completely surrounded by water. There are what we call islands.

Islands come in different shapes and sizes.

The smallest of islands might not even be able to hold a house, but the larger islands like England or Japan can hold cities and even countries.

Have you ever wondered how these islands are formed? Earth is constantly changing  at a very slow rate. The hot core inside the Earth is pushing some land up while the oceans are washing the land inside. The wind also keeps blowing the soil (top layer of land) away.

Some big islands were also formed by hot rock pouring out of the mountains which later cooled off. Some other islands that we have today were a part of the bigger continents, which broke off.

You can have most fun on a smaller island where you can fish and enjoy the sunshine.

Try answering this:

Which is the largest island in the world? Greenland:)

There’s a whole lot of water on Earth! Something like 326,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons (326 million trillion gallons) of water (roughly 1,260,000,000,000,000,000,000 liters) can be found on our planet.
