After a clash between the anti-whaling protesters and the Japanese Whalers, Japan has ordered a halt to the whaling activities. Whaling is hunting of the whales and Whalers are the people who hunt whales. In Japan this started almost 900 years ago. In 1986, the  International Whaling Commission (IWC) prohibited anyone from hunting the whales. Japan continued to do so for scientific research. Japanese whaling is currently conducted by the Institute of Cetacean Research. The meat from these scientific whale hunts is then sold in shops and restaurants.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is a non-profit, marine conservation organization based in US which works to save marine life.

On Wednesday there was a clash between the two agencies. The sea shepherd protesters tried to stop the Japanese ship from refueling and they retaliated by ramming into the two sea shepherd ship making a considerable damage.

So for now Japan has decided to halt its whale hunting activity and the sea shepherd are celebrating their victory.
