Trying to get a peek at giraffe could be a real  “pain in the neck”  because it is the tallest animal in the world. However, if you do get a look at the giraffe’s eyes, you will find them to be large, dark and calm. It is an extremely shy animal and gets scared very easily. That is why you must have noticed that they have “Be quiet” signs in the zoo outside the giraffe house.

Did you know that the giraffe’s neck has seven bones? Same as humans but each bone is 5 inches longer in giraffe and that is why such long neck. It is very difficult for giraffe to bend its neck. In order to drink water, it has to stretch its legs wide so that it can reach the water.

Although a giraffe looks skinny it is quite heavy, it weighs as much as five lions. If a gentle giraffe has to fight, it can kick hard with its hooves. Two other things that let a giraffe live safely are – spots and long legs. Spots offer a good camouflage and long legs are good for fast running if required.

A giraffe’s baby is as tall as a human adult when born. The giraffes are mostly silent except a few times when they are very excited.
