Olympics Badminton Event

Badminton is a sport played either between single players or between two teams with two players each. It is played with Racquets and Shuttlecock. The aim of the game is to hit the shuttle so that the other player/team is not able to hit it back.

As an Olympic Games event Badminton was played for the first time in 1992 in Barcelona. That is when Five events were held – Singles(Men), Singles(Women), Doubles(Men), Doubles(Women) and Mixed Doubles. Olympic games continue to hold these events till now.

This year there is good news for India. Five players have qualified to participate in London Olympics 2012. This is the highest number of players ever qualified. The players are -Saina Nehwal (women’s singles), Parupalli Kashyap (men’s singles), Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa (women’s doubles), Jwala and Valiyaveetil Diju (mixed doubles).
