Alzheimer’s is a disease that is easily mistaken as forgetfulness. The early signs of this disease are indeed forgetfulness, but that is just a beginning. As the disease progresses, it completely destroys the person’s memory and eventually they even forget how to breathe or swallow. There is no cure for this problem, the medication just relieves the symptoms a little bit. There are some lifestyle habits that can delay the onset of Alzheimer’s which are balanced diet, exercise and mental stimulation. It is named after Alois Alzheimer, who discovered the disease in 1906.
The methods for detection of this disease so far work only when a lot of damage has been already done to the brain.
Researchers at Newcastle University say they are making progress in coming up with a blood test that could complement brain imaging.
