The rock that will be curiosity's target

Curiosity ready to vaporize the Martian rocks

Curiosity has a Chemcam laser that can emit rays that vanish the target in an instant and reveal interesting information about it. Whoa! Don’t you wish you had that power where you could vanish a target?? Especially all that homework :)

The Mars rover has selected its first target which is most probably a typical Mars basalt – basaltic rocks.

More than testing the rock, this one would be a test of the Chemcam to make sure it works fine.

Its mission is to investigate the rocks at its landing site for evidence that Mars in past could have supported life.
