After a long suspense, it is now decided that Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherejee is the next president of our country. He will be the 13th president of India. He defeated the former Lok Sabha Speaker,P.A. Sangma.
Pranab Mukherjee was also the leader of Lok Sabha. But when he moved on to contest for the presidential elections, he had to resign from both the positions.
Humbly accepting the victory, Mr. Mukherjee, the first Bengali to occupy the Raisina Hill, expressed his deep gratitude to the people for electing him the President. He received much more than he had given (to the country), and he would try to justify the people’s trust in him, he said. The Hindu reported.
Good luck Mr. Mukherjee!
