Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio has been declared the new pope. Pope Mario will now be the leader and guide of Catholics around the world.

The previous Pope Benedict XVI, had resigned in February. He was 85 years old and his ill health was not allowing him to fulfil the duties of his office.

According to Catholics, Lord Jesus chose St. Peter as the first Pope. Pope means “father”. The Pope is the leader and the father figure of the Church family. Pope Benedict XVI is the 265th Pope and lives in the Vatican city, in Rome, Italy.
