With so much Olympics talk all around, You surely must have noticed those colorful rings – three on top and two under them and all of them interlaced. Do you know what these five rings are for?
The five Olympic Rings represent the five continents – Africa, America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. You must be wondering why not Antarctica? This is because there are hardly any people living on Antarctica due to its extreme weather conditions. Even if Olympics were held there, only penguins will attend it!
The interlocking of rings signify the meeting of the athletes from all across the five continents for Olympic games. The colours of the rings are blue, yellow, black, green, and red. Each and every country participating in Olympics, has at least one of these colours in their flag. Isn’t that amazing?

Do you know when modern Olympics started? In 1896.The Olympic flag and rings both were designed by Pierre de Coubertin, a Frenchman who invented modern Olympics in 1913. It took seven more year before the flag was finally flown in 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. Pierre de Coubertin is also known as the “Father of modern Olympics”.
