The 85 year old pope, Pope Benedict XVI, leader and guide of Catholics around the world said that he is going to resign by end of February. He said that his ill health is not allowing him to fulfil the duties of his office.

According to catholics, Lord Jesus chose St. Peter as the first Pope. Pope means “father”. The Pope is the leader and the father figure of the Church family. Pope Benedict XVI is the 265th Pope and lives in the Vatican city, in Rome, Italy.

Pope Benedict is the first pope in 600 years to resign from the office. The last time a pope gave away his post was way back in 1415 when pope Gregory XII  resigned from office.
