After hugely popular Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez passed away last month, Nicolas Maduro has been chosen as Venezuela’s New President-Elect.

A president-elect is a political candidate who has been elected president but who has not yet been sworn in, or officially taken office. Maduro got 50.8% of votes in presidential election held on Sunday, while opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski won 49.0% of the votes.

Late president Hugo Chavez, in December, had urged Venezuelans to elect Nicolas Maduro as the president in case he was unable hold office due to health reasons.
