Hey, we are back again to tell you latest whereabouts of southwest monsoon. You already know that after entering India from the ‘V’ tip, water laden southwest monsoon winds gets split into two parts –
Arabian Sea Branch – caused by dashing of southwest monsoon into western ghats.
Bay of Bengal Branch – caused by dashing of southwest monsoon into eastern ghats.
Therefore, it had been raining quite a bit in southern states of Kerela, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. From here, southwest monsoon takes anywhere from five days to a month to advance to Maharashtra. This year it arrived in Kerala on June 5 and exactly after 12 days, after moving northwards it has arrived in Maharashtra.
It has been raining in Mumbai since sunday, June 17. Look at the map below to understand better:
While monsoon has covered most parts of Maharashtra, it has also covered some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and some parts of south Gujarat.
