India on April 19th launched successfully Agni V, an Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) from the Wheeler Island off the the Odhisha Coast. It is indeed a very proud moment for our country.
What is Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile in the first place?
Let’s break the name into two parts and understand
Inter-continental and Ballistic missile.
While a missile in general means Any object thrown aimed at a target. Here it refers to a weapon system launched at a specific target.
Inter continental refers to the range ( more than 5,500km) that missile can be launched as far as across two continents. A “Ballistic Missile“is guided in the first part of its flight but falls freely as it approaches target. With this missile launch, India has emerged as a major missile power.
Imagine a missile like a ball that also carries some weapons. Now the farther you throw the ball the stronger is your arm. So it means that the farther your country’s missile can go, stronger your country gets. Agni -V can go more than 5,000kms when launched.
With this we joined the other nations like China and Pakistan whose missiles already had this capability. We are as strong as them now, so if someone attacks us we can defend ourselves better.
