Bird Flu is a disease usually found in chickens, ducks and turkeys. It is also known as ‘Avian Flu’. In rare instances, people who come in contact with droppings, feathers, mucus, and saliva of infected birds can get infected by the virus.

Recently, few bird flu cases have been reported in China. This has put Chinese people on alert fearing that if not controlled soon this might spread and cause a major outbreak. Hong Kong’s government said it was keeping a close watch on travellers and poultry coming into the city. City restaurants plan to stop serving chicken because of the outbreak.

Bird flu like any other flu can be best prevented through thorough hand washing. People should especially remember to always wash hands after coming from outside, before eating and also while preparing food.
