Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti’s has resigned from the top post. President Giorgio Napolitano had to dissolve the parliament as other parties, including those of ex- PM Silvio Berlusconi withdrew its support  to the government.

This means that  general elections will be held in the country soon to decide on a new leader.
