Third Wave of Floods in Assam

More fresh rains have lashed Assam, flooding more areas yet again.

Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes. Relief packages containing food, medicine and aid material are being dropped by the defense heavy-lift helicopters. But whether this relief material is reaching the needy is unknown.

As of yesterday, Upper Assam flood situation had improved but central and lower Assam are still in trouble.

Half of Kaziranga National Park is submerged again. Kaziranga is home to two-thirds of the world’s remaining one-horned rhinos population. One rhino was reportedly being killed by poachers over the past two days. Entire world population of the one-horned rhino is under 3,000.
