What is Lotus Sutra?

The Lotus Sutra was discovered in 1931 by some cattle grazers in Gilgit. It is 1500 years old and is the only buddhist handwritten note found in India. The copy of handwritten notes will now be available to scholars. The note is written on a birch bark (dried bark of a birch tree).

Gautama Buddha was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Lotus Sutra is a handwritten note of these teachings.

Lotus Sutra is believed to contain the last lectures or teachings by Buddha. It is kept at the National Archives of India in the capital, Delhi.
