What is Happening in Turkey?

Turkey is disturbed. Do you know why?

It all started out last week on May 28th with a very simple protest. The protest was to save some trees at the famous Taksim square. A new development project required to cut 600 trees of the Gezi park near Taksim square. In order to preserve those trees the citizens staged a peaceful protest.

Is protesting wrong? No, it is not. Remember how many times you protest to get your favorite ice cream in the cold weather. Your parents might not give in to your protest or sometimes they might.

What is wrong in protesting to save the trees, you might say? Nothing, but something went wrong, and the protests turned violent when the police intervened to stop the protests.

A lot of people in the country are unhappy in the way the decisions are taken by the prime minister of the country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Some people label him as a dictator. A dictator is a person who wishes to impose his will on others.  However, Mr. Erdogan believes that he is a servant of the people and not the master.

It is really sad to see that something that started on a noble note has turned into a fight amongst the people and the government. It started in Istanbul and has now spread upto Ankara, the capital city of Turkey.

Hope the situation resolves quickly.
