(Our 11 year old reader Ansh, feels its about time that we all become serious about our planet’s health.)
Global Warming is a big problem which no one seems to really be concerned about. Global Warming is a big problem as it is also the reason behind natural disasters such as floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, temperature rises and God knows what else. Global Warming is actually a result of our humanity’s greedy and irresponsible deeds. Not taking care of our mother Earth by hacking trees, slaying animals, starting forest fires, fighting wars and many more irreversible ruthless and selfish deeds have led to one question- “Will humanity stand another chance ….” Yes, that’s what! Now, because of global warming, the coming generations will have to suffer.
But how exactly will global warming affect our planet and in turn humanity in future? Let us explore.
- Pollution– Pollution started from the prehistoric times when man invented fire. According to a 1983 article in the journal Science, “soot found on ceilings of prehistoric caves provides ample evidence of the high levels of pollution that was associated with inadequate ventilation of open fires.” The forging of metals appears to be a key contributor in the creation of significant air pollution levels outside the home. Core samples of glaciers in Greenland indicate increase in pollution with increase in metal production by Greeks, Romans and the Chinese. However, pollution in olden times was less and could be handled by nature. But today pollution is everywhere.Construction, cars, nuclear experiments, radio activity, signalling, wars, etc. People still don’t understand this concept of pollution and use things in excess.
- Deforestation – Cutting of trees means a lot of things. It means, snatching the livelihood of a billion living organisms, snatching a tree’s right or you could even say loosening the soil. The most important thing to lose is obviously oxygen. In fact, a well forested area will never get a flood because the trees act like a blockage system. Trees collect a lot of water and after the water is stored under a tree it can be taken up. Trees play a very important role in biodiversity. Why cut them? By cutting trees, excess carbon di oxide is released into the air, the greenhouse gasses in the air amplify it, and keep it on Earth.
- Greenhouse Gases – These gases aren’t the friendly ones! Sun’s rays are meant to hit the surface of earth, heat it and then bounce back to space. But with greenhouse gases around the sun’s rays are trapped causing earth to heat up too much. If earth heats up that much it will be impossible for our race to survive any longer on earth causing all of us to die. Greenhouses gases are made by pollution and carbon dioxide. These gases hover in the ozone layer. It should be forbidden to release excess of carbon dioxide or any other greenhouse gases.
- Overheated Earth – What can we do to make earth last longer? To make earth last longer we will have to take good care for it and nurture it by reducing waste. But if we move on at this pace on reducing it, we will be behind our aim and it will be the end of humanity first. So, we should fight together and try our best to save mother EARTH!
