Who was Abraham Lincoln?

abraham-lincolnAlmost 200 years ago there lived a small young boy in Kentucky, USA. He was born on on February 12, 1809. When he grew a little older he was extremely shy, but still there was one thing that set him apart from the other boys his age. He was so strong that he equaled adults in his strength. He could chop trees and swing the axe with so much power that it surprised everyone. His family lived on a farm near a forest. They lived in a log cabin surrounded by wild animals,  but the boy was afraid of no one.

He helped his father in the farm. He worked so hard that he could manage only to go to a small school house for one year. However, he was passionate about reading. Whatever spare time he got he just read. Did you know reading makes you smarter? So this young boy was exceptionally smart, shy and kind. People lovingly called him “Abe”  as he helped neighbors plow the soil, plant the seed and also chopped wood for them.

Because he was exceedingly fond of reading he became very learned. People adored him for the funny stories he told. At 21 year of age, he moved to Illinois, another state in America. He became seriously interested in studying law, he studied with no one but taught himself.  He passed the exam of law and became an able and successful lawyer.

Pretty soon he got involved in politics. In those days, people used to buy slaves and treat them badly. Slaves were forced to work day and night. This young man was against slavery and fought to end it. Finally, he succeeded and also became the 16th president of United States of America. Can you guess the name of this tall, lanky, shy boy who made history?
