What is FaceBook?

What is Facebook?

Your older sister is always on Facebook and so is your elder brother and haven’t you often overheard  them asking their friends if they are on Facebook. But what is Facebook?  Is it some kind of a diet that your sister is on or a new video game that your brother is hooked on to.

Imagine a park where you meet all your friends, share your toys and like each other’s stuff. The same way Facebook is like an internet park for the grown ups where they connect via internet with their friends all over the world. They share their stuff on the internet and like each other’s photos, comments, status etc. It is a social networking account. Everybody needs to have an account on facebook to use it. In order to sign up for an account a person has to be 13 years or above. It will be wise to take permission from your parents if you could use facebook  even if you are above 13 years of age.

The name evolved from the fact that a lot of universities in the US  gave out a facebook to all its students. This facebook was a book that contained information of fellow students so that all the students get to know each other better. Facebook and its website was started in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.
