Wikipedia is derived from the combination of Hawaiin word wiki(meaning quick) plus encyclopedia.

Wikipedia founders Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger launched it on January 15, 2001. A network of volunteers, sometimes known as “Wikipedians”, make contributions to the online encyclopedia for collecting information.
